Founding

Pallotti Faraja Rehabilitation Centre was established in 2010 by its Director, Clare Edwards. Clare was sent by Irish Missionary Fr. Michael O’Sullivan SAC, who had spoken about his life in Esso, Arusha, Tanzania during his return to Ireland. He expressed that his survey as parish priest indicated that there were many children and adults with disabilities, and asked Ms. Edwards to visit Tanzania to help them. Her arrival as a missionary volunteer led to Farja Pallotti’s founding, where she worked for almost 11 years.

Vision

Faraja Pallotti’s vision is “to ensure that all children and adults with disabilities have the necessary support and services to enable them to maximize their ability, minimize their disability, and become valued members of their communities and families.”

Objectives

  • To dispel the myth and stigma attached to disability, which is very prevalent in Tanzania

  • To provide therapy and support services to children and their families living with a disability. This may require onward referral to more appropriate centers.

  • To treat each person at Faraja Pallotti with dignity and respect.

Objectives

  • Following assessment of a child, the parent is trained in handling and facilitation techniques so that the child’s distinct program can be carried out at home. The purpose of this therapy is to foster the disabled child’s integral development, including physical, social, and emotional of the parent handling and facilitation techniques so that they can carry out child’s program at home

  • Whenever there is complex matter which needs referral, Faraja Pallotti engages other rehabilitation centers, such as CCBRT and Usa-River Rehabilitation Center. CCBRT Moshi is contacted for special assistive devices such as wheelchairs, special boots, standing boards, motty start chairs, etc. Usa-River Rehabilitation Center, moreover, is aimed at the correction of foot deformities.
